We are in a new home now which we absolutely love because it as plenty of room for friends and family. Especially those two little amazing boys, Finnigan and Griffin. A lot of people have been asking me about when I'm going to release more music. I have enough material probably for two more albums but for me it's not something that I feel pressured to do, time-wise. I am enjoying taking this material and reworking it, playing with its cadence, picking patterns etc. I am also reworking my effects pedal board.

For you music gear people I have added a Strymon Mobius to go along with a Big Sky and a TimeLine. One of the main reasons I'm redoing the whole board is because I feel the cables I used aren't up to par. You can haves some really great tools/pedals to work with but if the cables aren't good quality it's irrelevant. I've chosen Mogami platinum series patch cables. There a life lesson in that somewhere....!avoid or

I've also created a workshop in the basement to work on my garden carousel and some other visual art things.

Life is good... life is short...
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/45695052017-01-30T17:16:20-05:002018-07-19T05:21:03-04:00January 2017 Music.........

Lately I've been digging up songs written in the past 2-3 years that have not been played out in public until now. I find it interesting that they are all names of women... 'Rene' Today', 'Anne Marie' and 'Stella'. It's truly some sort of subconscious thing because I really don't know people with these names. I felt much better when I recently discovered that the new Lumineer's Album had 3 songs on it with women's names ~ Ophelia, Cleopatra and Angela ( great album btw )

Many people have asked recently if I have been writing new material. I find that right now, I'm in a good place reviewing songs that have not made it to recording or the public ear. It's wonderful to go through scratch recordings and see the history of growth artistically.... so.... stay tuned as I rework and re-arrange I'd say about 25 songs...
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/40309242016-02-08T16:18:12-05:002016-06-06T22:26:39-04:002015, a year in review
Woah.........

It seems that I've been neglecting my duties in this Journal. Let's call it a good thing as 2016 was an amazing year for the music. I'm not quite sure how we kept up with it all but I just feel especially blessed to have had the opportunities to perform in several states as well as a jam packed local schedule. My 2009 SUV now has 162,000 miles on it although we did fly to the Midwest.

Speaking of the Midwest, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed travelling to our country's heartland. Thanks to a wonderful radio promotion campaign put on by Blue River Promotions, (Thank you Lisa Grey !), Carousel received a great deal of airtime throughout the country, especially in the Midwest, we were happy to see the songs getting plays on so many fine stations. Our tour of Minnesota and Wisconsin was so much fun. As an independent artist it is much more work than someone might think when it comes to the planning, especially when you add flights and hotels to the equation. I would do it all over again to visit the people and places we got to see. The simple act of a conversation at a small store in a town like Redwood Falls comes to mind as the people were pleasant and genuinely kind. There is something to be said about slowing things down a bit.

As much as I enjoyed the performances and was so elated to have people requesting songs from the album in a far away state, I really think it was the Americana part of it that captured me. The scenery, the Museums and the big lake they call Gitche Gumee... all spoke to me, saying our America is alive and well if you just take the time and breathe.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/36291612015-03-28T10:14:43-04:002015-03-31T11:25:34-04:00March ~ 2015...... Back in January I played a set of music at Fresh Hamptons out on the east end of the south fork. I spy a guitar player I know. Poor Klyph Black who had just finished playing was sitting there, trying to eat his dinner. If you know Klyph and his disposition, you’ll know that he is too kind to say no and loves to just play. So of course I had to pull him up with me.

Kyph and I, although we’ve never played together before have had a friendly interaction in the last few years that we have known each other. What happened next was so much fun that my smile actually hurt me face. Fast-forward to March and Klyph and I are playing together at one of the Live on the Vine Winterfest shows. … Same Joy, same smile.

What I love about Klyph is that he gets it. He doesn’t try to take over a song; he just makes it better and seems to know exactly what to do and when to do it. Call it a feeling call it experience… I call it Joy. It’s the same feeling I get when I play with Johnny, Jack or JP.

If you ever get a chance to see Klyph Black in any form, with his project Black and Sparrow or playing with anyone else, go…. And when you watch him and see his face while his is playing you will see that same JoyRobert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/36004682015-03-14T12:20:19-04:002015-03-14T12:42:30-04:00February ~ 2015...There is something to be said about listening to a friend... I took some advise from my buddy Jack Licitra and went back to the Grey Horse this time with just Dana and I. The evening was great fun and knowing that I was able to put on a show without back up is important, just as much as it is with it. My problem is that I understand this, but I just love having my friends with me, sharing the moments..... Kinda like Chris McCandless saying ~ “Happiness is only real, when shared.” And so I will continue to do shows solo and with my friends because know I won't always be in control of their schedules and mine. More importantly, the music needs to be able to stand by itself as an art just as I created it in my music room but my preference will always be to have them with me....Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/34899782015-01-27T18:18:32-05:002015-02-19T09:30:32-05:00January ~ 2015I'm just now getting better at playing with a full band.. I can tell you it's a challenge as a singer songwriter who usually controls the tempo and pace of a set of songs. Having one of the most important shows so far for me, John Platt's 'On You Radar' at Rockwood Music Hall, was exciting and nerve racking at the same time. A simple answer.... Rehearsals.... and trusting Dave March and Chris Marshak with the rhythm section. The show, I felt, was a great success.... rehearsals...trust. Thank you Dave and ChrisRobert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/34899252015-01-27T18:08:45-05:002015-01-27T18:08:45-05:00December ~ 2014A small stage....University cafe, Stony Brook NY.... Can't remember the older gentleman doing the sound, but he cracked me up. He saw my pedal system and said " you're not gonna blow my PA up now are you? I just spend $167 dollars getting it fixed" HAAAAAAAAAAAAA... I told him no and then proceeded to do a Metalica cover half way through the set. Acoustic of course..! I can't thank enough people for helping me get my music to this point. You all know who you are and you know how I feel. It has been the journey, not so much the destination that has given me so much joy......Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/31623952014-08-29T08:43:38-04:002014-08-29T08:43:38-04:00March ~ 2014....One of my favorite stories about the whole recording and making of Carousel happened while Jon Preddice and Ben Wisch were working together on the cello parts. They were working on a part for one of the songs which Jon had brought to the table. Ben listened carefully and then said to Jon, "hey, I like that, but let's try this .." After making a pass or two of Ben's idea, Ben quicky turned and said to Jon.. "No, my idea was sh_t, yours is much better, let's use yours..!"
This showed me so much about both of these men as people, Jon, not afraid to listen to ideas, and Ben, not afraid to fail, but always striving for the best for the art at hand... again I knew , this album was in many good hands....Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/30931132014-07-23T08:52:33-04:002014-07-23T08:52:33-04:00Febuary 2014~ Putting my friend and guitarist, J. P. Vest in the same room as Ben Wisch had been a visual of mine for quite some time, probably for 2 years. This month I got to see that come to fruition and neither one dissapointed. I loved what J.P. brought to the table and I was so happy with their interaction.
AS part of the 'Music on the Vine' series, I loved performing at Saninno Vineyards in Peconic. They had a great listening room and people sat intently as I performind a mix of mostly originals, some covers and a few stories... Had such a great time with Bonnie Grice of WPPB 88.3. Taping her show, "The Song is You' was so much fun and she made it, once again, very easy. In April we ventured into Brooklyn for the first time and had the pleasure of performing again in May at a place called Two Moon Cafe. It was an acoustic, unplugged set hosted by our good friend Carolann Solebello of Red Molly fame. we did an In-The Round type of performance and had such a wonderful time. Carolann was a gracious host and played some songs from her soon to be released CD. Check her out at www.carolannsolebello.com
Mr. Kerry Kearney welcomed us at his now famous " Acoustic Summit" and we had a blast...! Dana and I traveled to Connecticut on the 5th to be a part of the CT Folk Festival Audition where we were chosen as a finalist out of many, many applicants. The Audience was so receptive and the talent level was amazing. We made some new friends with one of them being a really cool band with a great vibe called ilyAIMY Check them out, they are very cool people and they write amazing music.
I played a show at a new place in the city called the Path Cafe.....It was so much fun to be back in New York City performing and the set went very, very well . We made some new fans and have been asked to come back in June.......Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/8770442013-06-04T15:48:11-04:002013-06-04T15:48:11-04:00March ~ 2013 What a great time we had Playing at a new Venue in Patchogue NY called 89 North. I got to hear some of my favorite people like Inda Eaton, Fred Raimondo and Bryan Downey. Each of us had a full set and the audience was very receptive. I've been incorporating a Cajon ( Drum ) with a kick pedal into my set in order to bring some percussion into the live set and I have been very pleased with the results so far.Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/4240102013-03-24T16:29:04-04:002013-03-24T16:29:04-04:00Febuary ~ 2013 Getting ready to map out the inner workings of putting out a new CD- Album. I am very happy to have Laura and Jack on my side . It's a daunting task and we have learned so much from the recording of Silver Burning Sky, that I feel we will be graduating to the next level on this one. I have put together a recording setup in my music room and have been practicing with the whole click track, separate vocal track thing. Silver Burning Sky was my first full length CD and we recording all of my parts "live", meaning I sang and played guitar and recorded it at the same time. Separating the vocal tracks from the guiater tracks give you more flexability to make the overall sound better and theis is not as easy as you would think.... so... off to practice I go....!Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/4028642013-03-24T16:18:25-04:002013-03-24T16:18:25-04:00January ~ 2013A new year.... It felt like such an accomplishment, performing @ the Live In The Lobby Series in the Patchogue Theatre. I had set it as a goal when I first got on this musical journey and January 3rd, I had the pleasure of peforming for the good people of Patchogue...! Wow..... what an amazing journey..... It is such a great thing to be able to experience all the new things that this music has brought to me. I have gained so many very good friends and have expanded the reach of these songs to all new places in New York City, Connecticut and New Jersey.

....It has been an interesting time, reflecting why it is that I've gone this route. Why play music?, what is with this need to be expressive...? Do all humans feel this need, what if we all were just musicians, painters and actors... nothing would get done...! Then I found some light. There is a sense of accomplishment in all work, a sense of pride for a job well done.. you just need to love what you are doing. I recently got mail from someone who told me that they were listening to some of my music, it had been helping them through a very tough time in their life and thanked me. No...Thank you, Gabe..... been there..... needed music to calm the seas myself.... Thank you for giving me a sign that this is not about applause, as much as we all desire it in some form or another.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/2972672013-02-03T09:05:03-05:002020-06-19T01:16:51-04:00December ~ 2012
.... It seems that December is sometimes a quiet month for me musically, although I must say it's somewhat welcomed. I like to be able to spend time with this crazy family we have and enjoy the lights. I had a very special house concert with Jon Preddice , Dana and I at the Freedom School House Concert Series. Anna & Dean Russell were amazing, graceful hosts who sure knew how to make us welcomed.

December is a strange month for me, as I mourn the loss of youth when it is here. I miss walking at night down the road on a cold night in my hometown. I can hear the sound of the snow on the side of the road as my boots met it, while the quiet sky and the stars were my friends..... I miss those friends in that small town.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/2631922012-12-07T09:10:00-05:002017-02-01T19:41:36-05:00November ~ 2012
Ok....... it's a good thing Dana let's me use her Civic whenever possible, because we sure put some miles on the road in November...!
To start off, the 2012 NERFA conference in upstate NY was the best ones so far with old friends and new, great talent and great food. My favorite discovery was a husband - wife duo called Naked Blue. Here is a sample of their music~ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf2qp_vykUA That same weekend we traveled to Fanwood ,NJ and performed for the great folks @ the Fanwood Concert series.... much fun!
For Thanksgiving we set our sails upstate and had a wonderful time with my Dad, Shirley, My Jenny and Kelly. I even let Jenn bring her fiance, Andrew along as long as he promised to not talk too much politics...! Joking, we love Andrew in this camp. Anyway..... we got home just in time to perform at the Marcelo Lucero Tribute but had to leave immediately after it to perform in Stafford Springs, CT for my new friend, Georgia and the good people up at the Staffords Arts Commision Coffee House....... so much time in the car, but so well worth every mile.
I have to say that the traveling is more than bearable because I have a great co-pilot and we like to listen to audio books together. We just finished Mocking Jay which is the 3rd installment of the Hunger Games trilogy. This is what I've asked for.... a life of music. Adjusting to it's schedule is a little tricky, but so far manageable.

Happy Holidays, Everyone......
This storm has changed the Tri-state area forever, and I don't think it will be business as usual for many aspects of our lives. I see so much hope in all of this, with so many people stepping up to the plate and not only donating, but actually getting out there and doing the physical labor. Mother nature reminds us once again who is boss and I wonder her reasoning.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/2526202012-11-16T06:10:00-05:002012-11-16T06:10:00-05:00September ~ 2012...Performing at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on September 6th as a headliner was so surreal for me and was definitely one of the highlights of this musical journey I am on. One of the things that I took away from it was the preparation it takes to perform at a venue like this. Every performance for me, I learn something new and with the Talkhouse, I think I learned about 10 times the amount. I am so happy that so many people came from so far away to support the music and I was so proud to have Jack Licitra with me on stage.Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/2139322012-09-13T17:30:00-04:002017-02-01T18:50:54-05:00August ~ 2012...Sometimes the best things about music are the connections you make while you are on the journey itself. I've been lucky enough to play along side some well respected performers here on Long Island and sometimes it's not about performing, but about sharing personal moments. On August 1st, Dana and I drove to Central Islip to see our friends, 'Miles to Dayton' perform.
This was no ordinary performance as they would be backed up by a full symphony orchestra. The music would not be just any music as it was their original songs adapted for that night. The orchestra would not be just any orchestra as it was being conducted by Mr. Phil Preddice, Jon and Leanne's dad, who is one of the most respected teachers and conductors in this area. The joy, the pride, the laughter and the generations of music were on display that night and it is something I will never forget. It is what music should be about and this video is a testimony to the evening.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xpwl48Wq2qgRobert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/2000152012-08-14T19:53:50-04:002012-08-14T19:53:50-04:00July ~ 2012 I loved July....! Had a wonderful time on a road trip to see my family in Northern Maine with my Daughter Kelly and Dana as Co-Pilots. We got caught in a hail storm that ended with a double rainbow all the way across the sky...! (ask Kelly the significance of that). It was almost as much fun as seeing everyone and visiting the Allagash for our favorite breakfast ~ THE PANCAKE at Two Rivers. wow......!

It was such an absolute pleasure playing in front of about a thousand people at this year's Acoustic Long Island Summer Concert. Dave Dirks and Company do a fantastic job putting the show together and I got a chance to share the stage with some incrediblly talented people like Barnaby Bright, Jesse Terry, Abbie Gardner, Little Toby Walker and Antigone Rising. I am truly Blessed.........Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1915162012-07-19T19:25:00-04:002018-07-06T11:29:16-04:00June ~ 2012 Ah June........ What fun...! We were back at The Grey Horse in Bayport, upstairs again in the listening room. The usual cast of characters, with Jon Preddice, Dave March, Miss Dana and J P. Vest who has recently taken on 2 more songs in the full set. I Love J. P.'s sound, it's such elation when a song you have written takes on several layers and breathes. J. P. makes this happen without taking over the song and this is why he is so good. Jon did his usual mastery and added a special Cello solo piece that made everyone smile from ear to ear.
We also had the pleasure to have the very talented Carolann Solebello perform a set that night, and she wowed the audience with her pretty voice and wonderful original music. Included in the evening was Poet Julie Sheehan who's words and delivery are so spot on and so real. I love getting the chance to introduce artists to an audience and I continue to get great feedback from that night...!
The WUSB 35th Anniversary show was so much fun, I should be arrested for possession of too much of it. Performing with a rock band format was not something I do normally but I felt like I was floating on air... so much energy.....! Check it out here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFEq5HCda9o Jack Lictra did an amazing job coordinating the event.Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1915132012-07-19T19:10:00-04:002012-07-19T19:10:00-04:00May ~ 2012Hmm.... Traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike.... sounds like so many songs, right? It seems the distance traveling has begun for this band, and it's a good thing my phone has a GPS in it...! Drove 4 hours and played at the Barrington Coffee House in Barrington ( Southern part of the state ) to a intimate crowd. We had a wonderful time sharing the stage with Loretta Haden, her husband gary and the lovely Sharon Goldman. after the show we got up and drove back ..... I think my hands are still on the wheel.....!

Miss Dana made her live radio debut on WUSB with DJ Eve's show, 'Long Island Sounds'. She is such a trooper and seemed so natural. Her level-headedness is good to be around in what is sometimes a chaotic schedule these days.... not complaining, just expressing the whirlwind...!
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1630732012-05-01T14:25:00-04:002012-05-01T14:25:00-04:00April ~ 2012....In less than a year both Dana and I lost our dearest uncles and we are still trying to come to grips with it. Dana's Uncle John, the man that took her under his wing when she needed him most, left this earth on April 9th surrounded by his Wife, Children, Nieces, Nephews and admirers ( this one ).
During the Christmas holiday, we were all sitting around the table and Uncle John said " I'm curious to know what is on the other side" He said it with a certain wonderment in his tired voice and I know he meant it, but I'm kinda guessing part of the reason he said it was to help put his family at some sort of ease.
How do you define "lost"? ......Lost the company of? ......define company .....Lost the person?....define the person.... a memory? Since this is a space where I am called upon to write my thoughts I can only say what I think.
Uncle John is lost only in the sense of his body. His warmth, his deeds and his memory move forward in all of those he loved and who certainly loved him. His kindness to my wife before I even met him has affected me forever and his acceptance of all people is an example of how we should all aspire to be.

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1630662012-05-01T14:00:00-04:002012-05-01T14:00:00-04:00March ~ 2012
....Had a wonderful set of concerts in March with one of the more memorial ones up in Somers, Connecticut. The Somers Concert Series was a wonderful place to play with an attentive audience and a great sounding room. Dana and I traveled quite a bit that day as we drove up there and back in the same day, but it is so worth it when you gain new friends and a new audience. Thank you to Judy Reeves for all of her kindness and work!
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1476592012-03-13T12:26:09-04:002012-03-13T12:26:09-04:00Febuary ~ 2012.....The Innerspirit Coffeehouse was a venue that organizer and good guy, Greg Varro and I had been trying to get me into for quite some time. Scheduling conflicts finally went away and I was able to play on the 4th. I am so happy that I did. This place was packed with the best people and energy that greeted me with nothing but love and attentativeness...Thank you, Greg for having me.
Playing at Caffe Vivaldi in NYC with my dear friend, Julie Kathryn was certainly a highlight as well for February. It's such a great thing to have friends come and support all the way from Long Island on a weeknight. Thank you Terri, Ita, Janie and Justyna....

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1476562012-03-13T12:15:00-04:002012-03-13T12:15:00-04:00January ~ 2012 ...Started off the year in fine fashion with the Hard Luck Cafe Music Series which is put on by The Folk Music Society of Huntington. Taking place at their new home at the Cinema Arts Center in Huntington, The night was so so much fun..! I had my buddies from Miles to Dayton and J P Vest playing with me again. My favorite violinist in the World, Leanne Preddice- Strom performed 'If it were me' making what was truly a special night even more so. What a great job FMSH does of promoting their shows, I can't thank Mike and Karen enough.....
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1314392012-01-02T10:40:00-05:002012-01-02T10:40:00-05:00A Year in Review 2011 was indeed a whirlwind full of nonstop music, performances and fun with family. I wish I could replay everything and describe how happy I am for having had such a travel... There is just too much but I will do this; I will share with you how my wife talks every morning ( there's a point ). Every morning my wife's mom calls her and they talk about the day before in review.... and then Dana gets back into bed and proceeds to tell me everything her mom and she talked about.......Verbatim........ ;-)
I can't say I remember everything she tells me, but I can say that I am glad to hear all of it because there is always a certain happiness in her voice when she talks about her mom and her family. So......... just know that there is also a certain happiness in my head when I think of all the memories from that last year.
What I am most happy about is that I married a wonderful woman, and that I continue to try and remember what my dear friend Jack told me..... "enjoy the journey"

Happy New Year and whatever your own journey is, enjoy it.Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1314382012-01-02T10:25:00-05:002012-01-02T10:25:00-05:00December 2011The holiday month was filled with many great memories...Guild Hall,Star Cafe on Shelter Island and a reminder as to one of the reasons I write - The Maine night sky filled with thousands of stars in the middle of winter. There is something about it that is beyond words. I wish I could write a song that wouldn't interrupt the silence..... Maybe the silence is the song........Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1282012011-12-12T15:25:00-05:002011-12-12T15:25:00-05:00November 2011
If I were not allowed to look at my schedule book and say what event most stands out for me in November, it would have to be the Grey Horse Tavern Concert. A great job was done promoting it by everyone and Grey Horse owner, Linda Ringhouse made me feel very much at home.
This was the first time for many things. J. P Vest, frontman for the band 'Last Charge of the Light Horse' brought his amazing talent to two of the new songs and they were very well recieved. I also asked Angela Steen, a local professional dancer to choreograph a number for 'Venus'.... It was so beautiful..! Having Jon Preddice, Dave March and Miss Dana perform always keeps me in my comfort zone so I was very proud of the way the evening went......
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1221722011-11-07T13:05:00-05:002011-11-07T13:05:00-05:00October 2011Wowwwwwwww....October....Crazy........

......19 musical dates, including Festivals such as the Sag Harbor Music Festival, the Huntington Fall Festival and the Patchogue Arts Festival kept me very busy in this Halloween month. Thankfully there was plenty of chocolate around at every pit stop for my more often needed sugar rushes.....!

.....One of my favorite things I did was providing music along with my buddies from Miles to Dayton for the Hope Children's Benefit in Port Jefferson. Such a great cause
My sister Holly's twins, Hannah & Ari........Dana's sister Kaaren's precocious little Clare.........Olivia, Leanne and Jason Strom's beautiful and wise-beyond-her-years daughter..... and of course the ever-smiling, Layla, Jon & Krista Preddices' little girl ........all made us realize how time flies.

...... The PBS documentary "Light in the Darkness" which covers the events surrounding the death of Marcelo Lucero, opened up nationally in September and I was honored to have the song "Perdonome Hermano" in it as part of the soundtrack. This glass was given to me by my Uncle George who recently passed away. Uncle George was a big burly man who I never heard raise his voice athough he looked sometimes when we were playing poker that he would like to. Along with my Aunt Chris, he defined what it meant to care about the people you loved. No one in my family ever went without a place to stay in tough times, as his door was always open. Reaching out a hand whether it be by working on a project at a family member's home or hauling firewood was his way.
Uncle George didn't need to tell you how to live your life, he wasn't the kind of person to boast or to think he knew everything. He led by example in everything he did and I mean everything. The way he loved his wife, the way he cherished his daughter & grandchildren and the way he worked in the woods.
.... Love is a funny thing, and I witnessed it in its most covert fashion a few years back when I stayed at my mom and dad's place for a while after going though some of my own sadness. My dad and Uncle George it seems, for being several miles away from each other, would gab on the phone almost every night. I think they talked low so that no one would notice that they would stay on the phone for quite some time. Love...doesn't care if you are 2 time- tested lumberjacks in your sixties. Love doesn't care if you are scared of getting old. Love somehow finds it way into every heart if that heart allows.
.... My Uncle George loved me and I loved him. We knew this and there was no need to say it, just like there was no need for him to say why he was giving away some of his prized things last year. One of those things was a King's Crown Dish which was manufactured in the early part of the last century. I honor him and his memory by keeping him close to me when I am doing what I love.......Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1129572011-09-05T15:29:31-04:002011-09-05T15:29:31-04:00July 2011 Wow...... I think I am having trouble keeping up with this musical life!!
July was such a great month. I got to go back to Northern Maine for the first time in 5 years and play in front of my home town at the Moosestock Festival over the 4th weekend. It was so great to see old friends and family plus do a road trip with Kelly, Dana and Laura.
Musically, playing at the Great South Bay Music festival was such a great experience. Dave, Jon and Krista all sounded amazing and helped me go to a different level that day. It's wonderful to see the progress that has been made in such a few short years......Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1072712011-07-30T10:15:00-04:002021-05-04T10:38:54-04:00June....... Time is flying and June was no exception. Earlier in the Month I was honored to meet the family of 1st Lieutenant Joe Theinert at a benefit at Claudios in Greenport.
While stationed in Kandahar, Afganistan last year Joe Theinert lost his life serving our country. While I was performing a song written for Joe and his family, the most surreal moments happened. An Army bomber and then an Army helicopter flew by just as I was into the bridge of the song. We obviously had no way of making that synchronize and it will be forever remembered. I actually had to extend the instrumental part of the bridge to accommodate for the blade sounds. I've left the song that way, with it's extension....Some things are meant to be... Thank you Joe.Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/1035202011-06-21T16:20:00-04:002011-06-21T16:20:00-04:00May.......14th 2011 was a day I confirmed to my friends and family that I had met my match, my best friend and my love. This relates to music in a certain way....
My match, my best friend, and my love allows me to be me.... playing and writing music at all hours, and I mean all hours.....getting into bed and then jumping out 10 seconds later to write down a lyric idea... coming home late and leaving early, coming with me to every event possible.... allows me to bend her voice on harmonies to fit my idea of the female voice as it relates to robert bruey written music ( she rolls her eyes on this one ).... But most importantly....she listens and cares about my musical passion with me.

May was a good month....not because of so many musical events, but because it marks the beginning of a concert with Dana that will last a lifetime.....Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/996852011-05-15T19:25:00-04:002011-05-15T19:25:00-04:00April........What I can tell you is that April 2011 was a great month and went by way too fast....! I was invited to return to The Vail Leavitt Theatre in Riverhead by my good friends Miles to Dayton and boy was it a fun night. Did I love playing there? Yes, but more so than that, Dana and I got to hear our buddies, M2D kickin' some butt...! They even had their dad, Mr. Phil Preddice up on stage and Jam with them on violin....... Music is such a joy and the Preddice family proves it....!

Miss Bonnie Grice kindly had me back live on the air to help me promote some concert dates and I have to say, it is so much fun hanging with her. She is such a professional and makes it so cool that I have to remember that I am on air ...... just a lot of wacky faces and laughter....! I'm so glad that Bonnie and WPPB are in the place they are in, please continue to support them.

The Custer Observatory Concert.......what can I say? This place will always hold a special place in my heart. It is my home base, my home sound, my home people and on that night, rain couldn't hold back all the magic of the evening. My dear friend Fred Raimondo opened up the evening with 2 beautiful songs of his own that set the mood for the whole show.
I would like to say I knew what I was doing when I invited G P Lane to recite some poetry that night. I would like to say I told him how to show his wares..... I'll only take credit for wanting to add some diversity to the evening, and I will say that G P's performance was something to never forget. It was showmanship with a grasp of the English language not often enough displayed. What also made me very happy and proud was that Jon and Leanne performed with me again. I am so lucky to have such friends to share music with and I am thankful everyday for them.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/971952011-04-11T16:40:00-04:002020-09-29T07:34:03-04:00March
.....It was an honor when Mike Kornfeld, who is a good friend and a tireless supporter of local music scenes all over the tri state area, invited me to help formally announce the move of the Folk Music Society of Huntington to its new home at the Cinema Arts Center. I was happy to be there and ring in the new surroundings.
March was also a month for new introductions to some very cool people in the music industry. I was fortunate to be asked to play at the "Live at Crossroads Music" session in Amagansett, which is put together by 2-time Grammy winner~ producer / sound engineer Cynthia Daniels. I have to say it was one of the best sounding shows I have ever done, which allowed me to step up my game.
I was also invited invited by Cynthia to her home studio in East Hampton where we recorded a one hour, for-radio interview. What I really liked about Cynthia was that, even though she has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, she treated me like an old friend, talking about her experiences and her love for music... what a gem.... and one of her favorite songs, Reign O'er Me by The Who! Thank you Cynthia for making me feel at home.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/971912011-04-11T16:20:00-04:002011-04-11T16:20:00-04:00Febuary .....Febuary was a fun month, with lots of planning for future dates this summer. Playing Guild Hall for the first time was extremely exciting and the sound was fantastic.
One of the highlight performances of the month for me was getting to play again for Teri Kennedy and her "For Love...poetry and performance at Ashawagh Hall". I truly enjoy when the different arts are intertwined. To see performance art, poetry, visual art and music all in the same day is just amazing.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/918522011-02-01T13:05:00-05:002011-02-01T13:05:00-05:00January....January, January.... I should write a song about January...! The last two, (2010 and 2011) have been whirlwinds...oh wait, that's a different song....!

This January was non-stop as we officially released 'Silver Burning Sky' on the 25th of the month. Laura and I wanted to do something a little out of the ordinary for our kick- off so we had a dinner party and concert at O's in Saint James. It was a wonderful success with the Miles to Dayton bunch and My Buddy Jack helping me out on stage.
Phillipe, the principal and head chef at O's did a remarkable job and the staff worked very hard. My only regret was that I wish the place was bigger so that I could have asked more people to come.

In promoting the release, I was able to do live, on-air shows with Habanero of WUSB FM, Bonnie Grice of WPPB FM, Bob Longman of WUSB and Joe Vignola of WUSB as well. The radio personalities of Long Island have been extremely kind to me and my music, as well as to other local musicians. I thank them so much for stepping up.

Dawn Watson of The Press was also kind enough to have Brandi Buchman write a feature story in the Southampton Press about yours truly. This was perfect timing for the release date and Brandi really took the effort to write a nice article which highlighted the type of music and where it comes from.

Musical Events this month included The Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett (love that place), The Gray Horse Tavern, The Bridgehampton Parlor Concert Series, and Wings Over Haiti benefit.

........ January.........wow...!
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/918482011-02-01T12:40:00-05:002022-05-17T17:45:16-04:00December and a Year in Review.........The Holidays were somewhat quiet this year, thankfully. There were plenty of family and friends, just not as chaotic as they can be. I really loved playing at G P Lane's Xmas special. He surely knows how to gather up the troops. Dana and I sang a song called 'Bring a torch Jeanette Isabella' which is an old French Christmas song from the 1600's.

2010 was a year I will never forget. The powers that be showed me so many great things...... The importance of friends, trusting yourself and how very important it is honor that gifts you have been given. I have been given so many gifts and music being one of them has allowed me the keys to so many others.

The time of recording 'Silver Burning Sky', not necessarily the end result, was a life changing event for me. I found so much joy in working on this project. I thank Jack for sitting me down before we started and reminding me to enjoy the moments of it all.

I dedicate the great success and fun I have had in 2010 to Dana, Laura, Jack, Jon, Leanne and Dave.... I love you all.
Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/896342010-12-18T07:00:00-05:002017-02-01T15:35:20-05:00NovemberThis month was a very busy time for me musically but there are sometimes larger thoughts.....

..... November 7th marked the 2nd year anniversary of the tragic death of Marcelo Lucero. Because it was so cold that day, Joselo, Marcelo's younger brother organized the vigil to take place in the afternoon. As I played Perdoname Hermano I couldn't help but feel ashamed. There I was wishing I was warmer while the sun was still out, I could still see my breath, and I could still sing my song. 2 years previously a young man in the cold of midnight lay dying just wishing he would not stop breathing. I am forever changed and I am forever grateful to Joselo for allowing me to remember his brother with him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufnCbcaKTg8Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883402010-11-30T16:09:51-05:002010-11-30T16:09:51-05:00October........The artwork for "Silver Burning Sky" made me think about all of the albums that I have purchased over the years and the ones visually that stood out the most. I have to say that one of my favorites is U2- The Joshua Tree. Anton Corbijn's sparse photos left one of those images in my eyes that stayed on my retinas like a 1950's flash bulb.
I was able to have John Davis work with me and create an idea that spoke to the content of the music itself without being overdone or too busy. Thank yous out to John.

I think my favorite musical event in October was doing a children's storytime with Miss Dana at the library where she is the children's librarian. Kids absolutey love and respond to music in such a good way. It was fun to be out of the allegedly serious aspect of some of my writings and get to play among others " Going to the zoo" by Tom Paxton. We also read/ sang "Pete the cat " which Miss Dana and I are relentlessly determined to have seen as one of the best known children's books of the modern era.
it's all about the positive message....and " it's all good"

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883392010-11-30T16:09:08-05:002010-11-30T16:09:08-05:00September........Using visualization has been a very important part of this musical journey for me. When I first heard music being played at Deepwell's mansion in Saint James, I knew I had to see myself there and work towards it. Acoustic Long Island is such a great musical series and I think what separates it from most listening rooms is the venue itself, the quality of the sound and the audience. The people come there and pay homage to the performer by giving pindrop attention and it allows the performer to give back even more. When Dave Dircks asked me to play there it was my visualization come true and I felt so honored by his invitation.
To have Jon, Leanne and Dana bring to a live stage what is on the new recordings was so much fun. That night will be something that no matter where I go or how far this journey takes me, I will remember always. Photos from that night.

Mixing of the New CD, Silver Burning Sky continued in September. I really have learned so much about the process, as there is so much to know, so much detail in the puzzle it becomes. It's a good thing I have had people around me that have built puzzles before....!

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883382010-11-30T16:08:43-05:002020-07-06T09:20:39-04:00August......One of the most amazing nights occured at an old church in Sag Harbor in front of about 400 people. The 88.3 FM fundraiser at the Old Whalers Church was a great success. The sound of that church, the connection to the crowd and Bonnie Grice's smile ... I can't help smile myself just thinking about it. Thank you to Bryan Downey for having me and allowing me to share the stage with such an amazing line up.

......More recording... more recording.. So glad I made sure to get Dave Marchs' butt in that recording session. It's hard sometimes I see now, scheduling other musicians. I just knew when I met him last January that I wanted his energy on board. His bass lines were perfect and "Dorian" is what it should be with these 3 bass climbs cleverly placed. What made me really happy was that Dave did his homework on the songs and had things he wanted to try. Proud, Proud, Proud............

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883362010-11-30T16:07:48-05:002018-07-16T02:51:39-04:00June.......June was.....let's just say.... happy crazy.........Joe Iadanza was a great host at the Green Palate Showcase and the crowd was very receptive to this new guy in their territory.

...... Dana and I participated at the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life Walk" in our hometown of Southold. The sense of Community is definitely present in Southold...... reminds me of Maine. The walk was all night and I was asked to play a set at 1:30 in the morning......It was not hard getting going this late because the atmosphere was alive with smiles and laughter.

.... My new friend Teri Kennedy put on another wonderful show at Ashawagh Hall, East Hampton. It is so cool to witness the mix of media of art, poetry and music in the same room. There were world-class published poets on hand, and the work of some of the east end's most amazing artists was on display. Thank you Teri for all that you do to bring these wonderful nights together and thank you for inviting me to perform.

......My Friend Bruce Pandolfo Invited me to collaborate on his New CD AllOne- "Coal Aberrations". He put on an amazing display of his talent and we recently celebrated at his CD release party at the Mills Pond House in NY. You have to hear Bruce's work...he is an engaging storyteller and his work offers a positive outlook on some of the most difficult aspects of our society. Thank you Bruce for letting me share your stage.

...... The first recording sessions for the "Silver Burning Sky" project took place at an old house with great wooden floors in the small town of Bellport, on the water. No bells, no whistles....... just Jack, Laura and Bob our Sound Engineer in one room while Jon Preddice, his cello, together with me and my two guitars- Claire and Alanis- in the main room. What came out of it was honest and what I would like to describe as simply....magical.

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883352010-11-30T16:07:21-05:002010-11-30T16:07:21-05:00May........Rolling along on this musical journey......... I had a great time performing at the Cot N' Crackers House Concert Series in Schuyler Lake, NY . Bruce and Sue were great hosts and it was a lot of fun to play in front of a new crowd.

.....They say playing in front of your family is sometimes the most nerve-wracking thing to do , but I was so happy to play in front of everyone at My Aunt Chrissy's and Uncle George's 45th wedding anniversay celebration / reunion. If you knew both of them ( maybe you do ...!) you would know how important they have been to all of their nieces and nephews over the years. "The door is always open and the light's on in the hall" is a line from an old Waylon Jennings song. To say that they have lived by this is an understatement. It was a great day with many smiles and many memories!

.......Proud to announce that I have started rehearsals for my upcoming full-length studio album " Silver Burning Sky" which Jack Licitra of Jack's Waterfall will be producing.
Some of the wonderful talent that will be working with me are: Jon Preddice-Cello, Dave March-Electric bass and Leann Preddice Strom- Violin .....all of Miles to Dayton. I'm gonna insist that Jack includes his beautiful piano work as well. I can't tell you what it means for me to be able to make this happen!

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883342010-11-30T16:06:50-05:002010-11-30T16:06:50-05:00AprilNote: it's been such a whirlwind these days that I am a month behind in my journal updates. Not that the world waits with bated breath (ha) but I will get May together ASAP.

....... I had some new and interesting things going on in April. Legendary 88.3 fm NPR producer and host, Bonnie Grice invited me onto her show to do a live spot and it was magical. We were not only promoting the singer songwriter series in Sag Harbor but it was fundraising time for the new Peconic Public Broadcasting station as well. Bonnie is a gem and a pro.

....... Live taping for Whereforearts "after dinner" show was a blast. We taped a live interview and 3 songs which will air sometime late summer. Robin and Tom couldn't have been more accomodating and getting to hang out and talk shop with Lara Herscovitch who also performed was alot of fun. You can check it out at www.whereforearts.com

....... Karen Mannix of the Southampton Road Gallery put together a wonderful show called "Beatnite" where she matched Visual Artists with Performing Artists and asked the performing artist to perform an original song which matched the visual artists' work. There was some amazing talent and being matched with artist Sally Breen was a pleasure.

....... One of the more important events for me personally was supporting Joselo Lucero in the trial for the death of his brother Marcelo Lucero. I was able to see first hand the inner workings of and now have renewed faith in the American justice system. I am so personally grateful for Joselo. He has showed a world wide stage what it means to have grace and empathy under the most stressful of situations. To offer condolences to Jeffrey Conroy's family goes beyond what most of us are capable of grasping. I know I would have difficulty finding those words.

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883372010-11-30T16:05:00-05:002010-11-30T16:05:00-05:00July......Major recording sessions were the main focus of July. I have been given a chance to make something special and I feel happy that the powers that be consider me worthy of such amazing people that have come into my life. Not just as musicians and sound engineers, but more importantly as friends I hope to always have. I recently heard in conversation that Leanne Preddice Strom from Miles to Dayton was probably one of the best Violin Players on all of Long Island. In July I found out how very true that is. 8 months Pregnant and still willing to contribute to this project, she quietly walked into the room and simply gave.

......Quite frankly, I never thought that the sound of a wurlitzer piano would ever make it on to one of my songs. Lets just say that I am glad I am open minded enough to try different things. "Unwavering Grace" is now timeless to my ears. Thank you, Thank you Jack for asking me to try this.

........ and Miss Dana........my harmony.........Miss Dana is......... Unwavering Grace

......Emotionally somewhat overwhelmed when I think of where I was in my life just a few short years ago... oh......this wonderful journey.

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883332010-11-30T16:05:00-05:002018-07-20T01:48:50-04:00March....... Another great month and it seems that things are getting more and more busy. I got to play my first night at Elijah Churchill’s in Northport. Thanks to Cory, Neil and everyone over there for making it a fun time and for inviting me back on May 22nd.

....... My first full-length house concert was a great success in Jersey City Heights. Laura did a wonderful job preparing for it and we had amazing positive feedback from the guests who attended. David Plakke Productions videotaped the event and we are quiet pleased with the results. Thank you to David and Brett who had 2 cameras on me making me feel camera weird again, but that's ok...! Individual videos are being edited as I write this with Website and Youtube posts to follow shortly.

...... Among many other events, I was able to perform at a WLIU ( 88.3 FM ) fundraiser on the 27th. WLIU or Peconic Public Broadcasting is a staple on the east end of Long Island. Supporting local radio stations such as WLIU and WUSB ( 90.1) Stony Brook is very important to me and it was my pleasure to meet Bonnie Grice there. Bonnie is a well-known disc jockey on 88.3 and just like DJ Eve on 90.1, seems to always be out supporting local causes. Please join me in supporting theirs.

...... April is completely full of many new dates and adventures. I look forward to them and thank everyone who has come out to hear me play. A special thank you to Laura, Andrew and Lana for dedicating so much time to my house concert and video shoot...... je me souviens

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883322010-11-30T16:05:00-05:002010-11-30T16:05:00-05:00February..... I had such a great time playing at the Christopher Street Coffee House in NYC. If you have never been there to hear music , you should go. The Church is such a peaceful place, warm and full of sound. Ever been to a church that is lofty and distant in soul?.... this is not it.

....... I have been playing at the Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor with frequency and the crowd has been so supportive and loud... I love it...! Bryan Downey does such a great job organizing the program.

....... I've had the opportunity to work with the photographer Michael Cody of Greenport and I must say I am quite pleased. I am not a big fan of getting my picture taken , but Michael seemed to know how to capture the moments. It's weird having someone shoot you 500 times in half an hour, but it was well worth it. Most of the shots will be saved for the second CD which I am planning out now.

...... It was a very busy February, lots of performances and lots of work, but I am blessed to work on this labor of love I call Music.

Robert Brueytag:www.robertbruey.com,2005:Post/883312010-11-30T16:00:00-05:002010-11-30T16:00:00-05:00January..... Playing at the Homegrown Music Cafe was a special night as my childhood friend Marilyn John and her sister Sue drove all the way down from Saratoga Springs to take in the show. It also marked the first time Dana sang back up for me on "Silver Burning Sky". The song is now not the same without her. What a great Venue and without question one of the best sounding rooms that I have played on Long Island.

........ The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Benefit Concert was a great success and a great night for music. Jacks Waterfall, Miles to Dayton, Jesse Haines Band and Damaged Goods all made me proud to share the evening with them. A special thank you to Fred Bredfry for organizing this important event and for believing that I belonged on stage with such talent.

........ The Bay Street Theatre Songwriters series was a huge success. It was packed so that you couldn't walk in there. Bryan Downey did a great job promoting the event and has invited me back in February to open the show.

........ I often speak about what it was like growing up in Northern Maine. Magical things like the Aurora Borealis, unpolluted star filled skies, Mount Katahdin. I would just like to say how lucky I feel to live on Eastern Long Island which allows me a great balance of the quiet nights and small town feel, while being only a stones throw to the greatest City on earth...NYC. It affords me wonderful culture, a music scene beyond comparison and a great diversity of people who call it home.......... So Lucky me, I get the best of both worlds.

Robert Bruey
